My first day of jobshadowing in Metsakartano Youth Centre in Finnland has come to an end. Iʾm following the work of Päivi international volunteer coordinator. A lot is going on in the centre at the moment. There is short term EVS project Poke the Globe, international youth exchange and long term EVS. Tomorrow is the D-day since Poke the Globe volunteers are preparing the main event of the project. 230  youngsters are coming to the youth centre to be part of activities that volunteers have prepared for them. Main focus is promotion of intercultural learning. I see a lot of differences between finnish and slovene youth centre. First is the environment that they are working in (distances between the center and cities), logistic, content of their work. But at the same time carrying out EVS project has just the same challenges as in Slovenia. I was really surprised that the only one working with all volunteers is Päivi. It is a lot of work for just one person, but she does it perfectly. Job shadowing was provided to Youth Centre Domžale by Eurodesk, Movit and Erasmus+.

Portugalke so pripravile pokušino njihovih bombonov, predstavitev države preko kulturnih in arhitekturnih znamenitosti in seveda možnost fotkanja s C. Ronaldom 🙂 Španke so izvajale kviz o znamenitostih Španije in jih povabile k plesu makarena. Egipčana sta predstavila zgodovino države, praznike in verske značilnosti. Francosko-Karibska naveza je predstavila plese otoka Martinque in njihove slaščice, hkrati pa so še lahko spoznali kulinariko Francije in ustvarili tipičnega galskega petelina. Hrvata pa sta Fincem približala glasbo in ples.

On the second day of my job shadowing I was observing the implementation of activities that EVS volunteers have been preparing for the last couple of days. 230 Finnish youth visited the event Poke the Globe. Portugal volunteers prepared tasting of candies, they presented Portugal through cultural and architectural heritage. Ok you could also take a selfie with C. Ronaldo 😊 Spanish volunteers had a quiz about main attractions of their country and invited participants to dance macarena and flamenco with them. Germans presented some of the most popular buildings in Germany and then pupils had to create buildings from scrap material. Egyptian presented country’s history, traditional holidays and religious features of the country. French-Caribbean team presented traditional dances and sweets of Martinique. At the same time participants could discover French cuisine and craft a paper rooster. Croatian volunteers presented traditional dances and flag. For me, as a person from the neighboring country, it was funny to listen kolo music in the middle of Finnish forest and watch Finnish youth learning how to dance to that music.
